CHALCEDONY

Origin

Chalcedony is named after its classic source, Chalcedon, a Roman province of Bithynia located in present day Turkey.

History

Chalcedony features in Jewish, Christian, Islamic and Buddhist religious traditions. Chalcedony was playing an important role in Mesopotamian (modern-day Iraq), Hittite (modern-day Turkey), Egyptian and Greek civilizations. To put its heritage into context, Agate (banded Chalcedony) beads dating back to 7000 BC have been excavated in Turkey. The Romans particularly prized Chalcedony, using it as magic amulets, seals, signets, cameos (a gem carved in positive relief) and intaglios (a gem carved in negative relief), setting them in rings, brooches, bracelets and necklaces.

MYSTERIOUS ZEBRA ROCK

Origin

The only known deposits of Zebra Rock in the world are near Kununurra in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Zebra-Stone is a sedimentary stone that formed over 600 million years ago. It was formed when clay deposits compacted into layers, which then created the characteristic red/beige or red/brown bandings. These bandings formed different patterns, such as straight lines, waves, and spots.

Geologists are yet to agree on how the patterning has been formed. Recent tests suggest the age of stone is 1. 2 billion
A new deposit of Zebra Rock has been found in the Northern Territory

Properties:

There are many different physical and emotional healing properties that this gemstone offers users. The zebra rock is believed to be able to motivate a person’s physical force.

COLOURFUL JADE

Origin

Its name was given by the Conquistadors in the 15th century. They used to call it "PIEDRA DE IJADA"., literally “stone of the pain side”. Early Spanish explorers named it after they saw natives holding pieces of the stone to their sides to cure or relieve various aches and pains. According to an Amerindian legend, the jade could cure some diseases, as well as driving away bad spirits.

The first jadeite reached China from Burma (now known as Myanmar) in the late 1700s. Jade was regarded as the most precious stone in ancient China. It symbolized purity and moral integrity and was prized for its durability and magical qualities. In FENG SHUI, jade is a highly valued stone that symbolizes gentleness, serenity, harmony, and balance.

Properties:

Jade is a gemstone believed to have several benefits, including increasing fortune, grounding, and enhancing maturity in relationships. It is thought to have protective, lucky-charm energy. That is why babies in Asian cultures are often gifted jade bracelets when they're born.

Did you know? In Japan, Jade was considered the national stone. It was mainly used for bracelets and was a symbol of wealth and power (leaders used jade for rituals).

MURANO GLASS

Origin and History:

Murano is a series of islands linked by bridges in the Venetian Lagoon, northern Italy. It was initially settled by the Romans and was a port of trade.

Venetian glassmaking factories existed as far back as the eighth century. Its connections with the Middle East through trade helped its glassmakers gain additional skills, as glassmaking was more advanced in areas such as Syria and Egypt.

In 1291, the Venetian Republic fearing fire and the destruction of the city's mostly wooden buildings, ordered all glassmakers to move to Murano with their furnaces. Glassmakers were forbidden to leave the Republic, a way to keep secrets safe… Leaving without permission or revealing secrets was punishable by death.

Murano was born. It became the manufacturing center for Venetian glass, exporting all over Europe, becoming Europe’s major centre for luxury glass.

Christopher Columbus brought these beads with him as presents. They became popular in Africa and in the New World, with Columbus commenting the taste of the Native Americans for these Murano Beads…

SWAROVSKI

Origin

Based in Wattens, AUSTRIA, the company was founded in 1895, by Daniel SWAROSVKI.

SWAROSVKI was born in Bohemia (at the time part of the Austrian Empire), now Czech Republic. His father was a glass cutter, and Swarovski first learned the art of glass-cutting in his father's small factory. He was educated in Paris and Vienna,

In 1892, Swarovski patented an electric cutting machine that facilitated the production of Lead Crystal (*) Jewellery, which until then had to be cut by hand.

His factory was home to the first crystal-cutting machines that revolutionized the jewelry business by creating a method for the mass production of crystals.

Swarovski's vision was to make "a diamond for everyone" by making crystals affordable.

(*) Lead glass’s offers wonderful clarity. In marketing terms it is called crystal glass.

In 1899, it expanded to France, where it was known as “Pierres Taillées du Tyrol”

In 1977, Swarovski entered the United States' jewelry market.
